Yesterday I was overcharged $800 at a restaurant, more than double the correct bill. This happens all the time across multiple industries. Why? - Americans can't do math? - Non-confrontational culture and fear of bargaining encourages overbilling? - Laziness? - Dishonesty?

Pretty good chance that this was what the guy was trying to pull on me yesterday. Group celebration. I felt like an asshole, but...hey don't screw me. There was a comment card in the receipt holder and I let th restaurant know, to my waiter's chagrin.

Yeah it feels weird but you gotta push back otherwise they keep doing it. I've seen people just go along here. Not with 2x though that's insane.

>I've seen people just go along here. Don't know what the situation is in Europe, but I've only ever seen that happen in the U.S.

I think it happens but maybe less often and you don't have these social games attached to it. Like if you catch them they pretend it was a mistake and that's it.

It's interesting that the world's MVP country for the past 100 years can have these pockets of stupidity yet still succeed in so many areas. Just need to get the main things right I guess.

Overwhelming global military advantage + great business environment that encourages risk taking + entrepreneurial culture etc affords room for a lot of weak areas
