      So we agree that some people are broken beyond repair. You say that there are people who are not who just need basic income to get out of a bad feedback loop. If programs like TANF exist, why haven't they already broken out already? There are numerous temp. assistance programs.

      First of all, TANF is different in every state. What you used was Maine's. Maine's minimum wage is $11/hour. 22 working days in a month and 22*8*11 = $1936. This person, at $1640/month, is working 34 hours a week. They would also be paid child support for each child.

      According to what I've read online, if the significant other has no or very low income, they will pay $25-$50/month in child support. Having 4 children with someone who is poor to the point that they can't afford to pay more than $25-$50/month per child is an impressive feat.pic.twitter.com/EMJgEuhM99

      So to summarize, I'm pretty skeptical of a poverty trap for people who are not addicted to drugs or capable of working (i.e. not blind, disabled, mentally handicapped). There's ample government assistance, even for a 4-kid no-child-support no-relative hypothetical person.
