      1) I overheard a student talking about how he dearly looks forward to the day that copyright laws cease to exist. He was also extolling the virtues of piracy. This is a common mentality amongst people before they become members of the workforce engaged in the art of creation...

      2) Anybody can steal. It takes no creativity, no intellect, no skill, and no effort. Creation of anything worthwhile, anything worth buying, takes immense labor and painstaking commitment, not to mention creativity, intellect, and skill...

      3) It's very sexy when you lack the ability to create, to tear things down. But building is much harder than destroying. And copyright law protects builders. Maybe their terms are too long, maybe they're too restrictive...

      If patents are a bad metric for inventiveness, what's better? I think what you wrote is technically true, but in practice, usually false. People don't spend the hundreds of hours and many thousands of dollars to patent useless crap.

      The length of copyright protection is also excessively long IMHO. And many of the laws are applied too broadly.

          Yes, that is a portion of it. But there is also a lot of antipathy around copyright terms in general. The reason terms are so absurdly long in the US is largely due to corporate lobbying by the movie/music/publishing industries.
