Mad cow disease. Real illness or misinformation campaign from big carb?
While I basically trust your one-word answer more than myself, I remain skeptical. Very few cases in humans. Since we know so little about the brain, it could be misdiagnosis.

a lot of things around the disease are unknown: prion mechanisms, incubation, diagnosis (vs. dementia)

Right. I've never heard of prions in any other disease.
