2/ I've long believed that a part of correctional staff pay should be tied to "product" they produce and whether it reflects what Public wants (ex-cons that can reintegrate, get jobs/take care of families, avoid re-offending). Incentive now is to keep revolving door swinging.
Thanks, a bit like hospitals wanting unhealthy patients. Should prisons be tougher? As the article says, for a lot of people, prison is easier than real life.

No. U want inmates to leave prison "respecting" the Society that punished them for their actions. Treating them poorly inside only breeds resentment/contempt. Inside is only "easier" because u get food & shelter (which some outside regularly don't). Prison is never "easy."

What would you do to fix the problem besides incentivize employees based on the "quality of their product"? Abolish private prisons? Introduce more rehabilitiation programs?
