I'm probably the least SJW type you will meet, but as someone who has worked with people with developmental challenges I can think of a dozen or so words you could have used besides that one. I'm not offended nor screaming in outrage. Just sayin it as a point of info.
Thanks. You're right. The word I chose is insensitive. I care about the mentally-handicapped and I empathasize with them. That said, I think our society is going overboard with the "can't this word or that word" stuff, so I'm going to stick to it.

By the way, I don't actually mean retarded people. It's just a facetious way of explaining the idea that the human race needs to simple intuitive explanations to understand things, myself included.

I totally get it and was serious when I said I wasnt offended. And I knew what you meant by using the term. Probably half the population over 50 have used it and many like it when times were "less sensitive". One of the tricks in trying to teach my old dog self is word choice.
