How could this be in a growing city? Some possible explanations: - You can't get to a station without driving a car, so riders bypass public transportation - Once you arrive at your final stop, you cannot walk to your final destination - Public transportation is just too slow
Lot of other car-oriented cities have this problem. Guess what city has the largest light rail network in the United States? Dallas, Texas. No one uses it there either (except for homeless people, in part because there are no turnstiles to prevent fare evasion).
Shared bikes, electric scooters?
Also adding the global trend towards healthier life styles. At least in Europe I am seeing more people saying we can go walking (even with monthly ticket)
Alternatives like Lyft and Uber.
Good point. It fell less in NYC (established taxi network, thus less affected by Uber/Lyft) and about the same in Atlanta (AFAIK no established taxi network). I'm tempted to say that you've figured it out, but then again most ridership is commuting. Uber is expensive for that.
