Has any entrepreneur ever run a regression on business data and been enlightened? I got an economics degree in college and when I first started I periodically tried, but gave up when the results consistently proved useless.

Not sure i've almost exclusively seen people use linear / logistic (similar math). Otherwise they use completely different stuff like decision trees/neural networks based stuff.
