I assume you got this from Nassim Taleb's 'Antifragile'? He also mentions weightlifting. Something like lots of reps with small weights for stamina, plus a few reps with very high weight for strength.

I've read Antifragile and it's one of my favorite books. Perhaps without having read it, I wouldn't have had this thought. That said, I independently arrived at this concept when thinking about how I used to live in Astoria, Queens. I loved it, but it's not an optimum.

Counter example: clothing. No need to buy super high end designer stuff or dirt cheap stuff. Middle of the road is probably best (maybe one fancy suit).

Fancy suit and rolex. Everything else can be a uniqlo uniform. I think it's an example not a counterexample.

For intellectual work: when working, focus 100%. When relaxing, forget about work. Better than working with 90% focus all the time.

Invest in very concentrated investment managers who do deep research as well as index funds. Nothing in the middle.
