Speak often enough to CEOs of companies that make things and you realize how divorced macro debates can be from micro realities. “Leave China, just restart in Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia” is a world of lollipops and rainbows that exists only on Twitter and cable news.

I have manufactured 100s of different products over 10 years in china USA vietnam Cambodia.https://twitter.com/Molson_Hart/status/1157279604626907136?s=19 …

This is not right. It's possible to move enough production of out of China so that the final good says "made in X". Where this is not possible is the high value subcomponents. Many of these have not even moved to china yet (they're made in sk and Japan). https://twitter.com/EvanFeigenbaum/status/1156990441868447744 …

That's terrific. And it looks like you have a great business. You'll also know that every business is not the same. And macro/micro conditions in every Asian country are not the same either. So when others say "just move to India," it's not a helpful contribution to discussion.

Thanks for the kind words and thoughtful response. I agree, but, as you pointed out, depending on product moving to India is feasible. The only country that it is not so easy to move production to...is the USA.

A lot of the companies/people who say "moving out of China is not possible" don't know what they're talking about or if they do, they're just saying this because they trying to sell you on the idea that the tariffs will be disasterous for consumers (not true).

I don't see it that way. I talk to lots of companies in lots of industries. Yes, all have moved parts of their business -- Vietnam, Indonesia, many more. All have problems. All struggle with conditions that are not identical across Asia. Almost none are in China for labor cost.

See what, what way? People like to complain. Labor is cheaper outside of China but supply chain sucks. Check out this poll of 24 cos manufacturing at scale in China:https://twitter.com/Molson_Hart/status/1157285487343820800 …
