I think the 10x engineer as espoused is a dangerous myth. I’ve met 1/3x engineers - people who hated (?!?) programming and were just doing it for the money. And I’ve met 3x engineers who were really exceptional. If you’re not technical a 1/3x person might seem “normal” to you.
There are also "10x" engineers who are technically gifted but struggle to understand the necessity of clean intuitive UIs.
