Is it true that, because of VAT alone, large technologies companies pay much more tax in Europe than they do in the United States?

Companies don't pay VAT, consumers pay VAT. Companies only collect VAT for the country from the consumer. Like Amazon is doing now with sales tax for some States in the US.
