Back in 2010 I hired (I didn't know what I was doing) a guy whose English name was "lovable" to do an inspection on some goods I bought in Liaoning. He was a part-time 城管. He ghosted completely until about 3 days later when I saw on his wechat him in a hospital in bandages.

He was tasked with getting some 50 year old illegal fruit seller to stop selling fruit on the street and the guy just beat the living shit out of him. In that same town, people used to tell me how people would get mercilessly beaten in parts of town by gangsters. No more.
