Is French still a valuable language to know in politics and European business? I hear this a lot when people talk about signing their kids up for French rather than Spanish, which to me is more practical and useful in the U.S.

English is my second language. One of the underrated benefits of knowing two (or more) languages very well is that you can understand how language and thinking works better because you have points of comparison. If you have just one, you can't step out of it as easily (go meta).

As a fan of the arts, I also really like being able to read/watch/listen to a wider variety of things in their original language.

I agree with all of the above. IMO exposing kids to any other languages is good. Spending a lot of time debating between Spanish and French (or any other language) isn't worth it though IMO. And Asian languages have greatest potential use for the future I would think.
