Is French still a valuable language to know in politics and European business? I hear this a lot when people talk about signing their kids up for French rather than Spanish, which to me is more practical and useful in the U.S.

As a fan of the arts, I also really like being able to read/watch/listen to a wider variety of things in their original language.

I agree with all of the above. IMO exposing kids to any other languages is good. Spending a lot of time debating between Spanish and French (or any other language) isn't worth it though IMO. And Asian languages have greatest potential use for the future I would think.
