Why not pay more? Wages and healthcare are the two primary costs of running a prison. So the way a for-profit company can offer lower costs than the public sector and make a profit on top of that is to skimp on both.

I get what you're saying and will retweet your original post, but it's very much worth noting that the median wage in Mississippi is around what they were paying, so it's not totally outrageous.

It's an enormously complex problem to solve. Can we enact a law that forces the government employee who makes the purchasing decision to be exposed to their decision? For example, have that employee spend 4 hours in the prison that they allocated to a private company
