I don't follow Overwatch. I was coming at the problem from Dota where teams are not associated with a particular location. Perhaps the correct answer is "neither." There will be examples of both as there are in soccer and basketball.

AFAIK American football is the only sport where teams dominate over personal brands. It's often speculated that the reason for this is the helmet. E-sports doesn't have this issue.
