Good points. Perhaps it could use proof of stake instead. But anyways, no need to host it on blockchains -as you point out it's not efficient. Rather, use blockchains where they shine, as ledgers. Just an easy way to distribute shares that works on a global scale.
Don't know enough about pos to have an opinion. I'd need to be think about the best way to do it.

You know what's be interesting? If they used client side transaction processing. Like imagine if, as you were on Facebook, your computer would be processing whatever shit is needed to run the site.

It's a cool idea and I would hope someone somewhere is trying to make this happen. Like, you could create a YouTube competitor by using distributed hard drives of users + bandwidth, etc. Already happens with Torrents, it just needs a better front end.
