Not sure if blockchains work for this. 1. Blockchains require proof-of-work 2. Proof-of-work is computationally expensive, which means that the network will be slow and expensive 3. That doesn't work for social media There needs to be a change, don't know what though.

Good points. Perhaps it could use proof of stake instead. But anyways, no need to host it on blockchains -as you point out it's not efficient. Rather, use blockchains where they shine, as ledgers. Just an easy way to distribute shares that works on a global scale.
