For economic reasons, it was once fashionable to learn Russian, then Japanese. Today, the equivalent language is Chinese. The world is converging to English, but I can see Chinese being much more useful than Japanese or Russian ever was.

As an English speaker in the USA, here are the secondary languages you should learn (ranked): 1. Math 2. Code 3. Chinese 4. French 5. Russian 6. Spanish There are just too many Spanish speakers to make it useful, though I agree it's much easier than Chinese.

IMHO, latin is useless and the reason why I like French as a language is not the prestige, but: France + Africa I might even put Portuguese over Spanish.pic.twitter.com/In39vNZVPd

Yeah, I'm talking about utility. If you don't speak English, go learn that first. Maybe even before math. Do people really view knowing languages as prestigious? I speak French and...it has gotten me nowhere. Math and code have made me rich.
