Producer => distribution center => store => customer. E-commerce grocery delivery reduces damage by reducing actions necessary for delivery, i.e. fewer steps and no need to pickup package to read and compare items. Unsolved issues of e-commerce grocery delivery remain:

A. Average produce delivered to customer lower quality B. Insufficient product throughput to reduce cost of delivery through scale and efficient delivery outside of Urban areas, i.e. think a UPS truck making 30 deliveries in a square mile vs same in 25 square miles, higher cost.

Your point A seems to be because online grocery store pickup uses a FIFO system to pick your groceries (reducing the weight of cosmetic and freshness in the selection) whereas the in-store customer pickup is closer to LIFO because cosmetic and freshness outweigh everything else.
