Local Trader Joe's 2018 donation to local food bank: $438k Mostly caused by: 1. Spoilage 2. Damage (to product and/or packaging) E-commerce grocery delivery solves #1 by reducing steps between producer and customer, i.e. producer => distribution center => customer instead of
A. Average produce delivered to customer lower quality B. Insufficient product throughput to reduce cost of delivery through scale and efficient delivery outside of Urban areas, i.e. think a UPS truck making 30 deliveries in a square mile vs same in 25 square miles, higher cost.
