This advice is just terrible. You should politely disagree and explain why. If you constantly obfuscate things and confuse your counterparty with indirect disagreement you will just frustrate them. Who the fuck wants to do a deal with someone who does this? C'mon.

Agreed, I’m actually pretty convinced that the opposite is true. Greater transparency about real motivation in negotiations gets to better outcome. Unless it really is a zero-sum $ price question

To your point, I think you could possibly argue that in a single iteration game, that this strategy could work, but we don't play single iteration games. We play long-term games with reputation and repeat business.
