Except facts don't support this narrative. It actually supports the opposite. We are so eager to have women be the face of STEM that we forgo our critical thinking. She was chosen the face of this project DESPITE her algorithm not being used.https://twitter.com/backslash/status/1117083303561928705 …

It may be foolish to try to measure who contributed more to a complex science achievement but, given the parallel structure of competing algos in this particular project, it's possible to see that the other teams (composed of women and men) rendered the final picture, not hers

We have a media that will often ignore facts to push popular narratives. Elon gets a lot of praise but also a ton of well-deserved push back and criticism. Why didn't we do the same with Elizabeth Holmes?

When the media rushes to exaggerate the accomplishments of people who do not fit the profile, be it gender or sex, they are diluting the accomplishments of others in the field, especially the real atypical success stories. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryam_Mirzakhani#Awarding_of_Fields_Medal … https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Curie …
