On startups.... Many billion dollar businesses follow the same four-step formula: 1. Find an industry with a low NPS score. 2. Raise money. 3. Vertically integrate. 4. Recruit the best people. Extra points for under-valued talent.

Both of the profitable companies are started followed the formula (1 and 3 anyways), however I think your observation works better like this: 1. Find an industry with a low nps score 2. Raise money 3. Compete asymmetrically 4. Recruit best people

Vertically integrating is just one way to do it. Re-intermediating (the opposite) is another. Use software to compete on cost. Use lower costs to compete on costs. The important thing is just be different!
