How to get unlucky!
@Naval recently described the four types of luck in our world:
1. blind luck
2. luck generated through activity
3. recognition of luck
4. luck finds you
And I thought it would be cool to look at the flip side of that equation - misfortune!

1. Hit by a bus when you were 6 years old? Born in Central African Republic? Not the winning sperm? This is bad luck that is not in your control. Avoid places, times, and activities that put you at risk of these terrible circumstances.

2. Inactivity creates bad luck. For example, if you do not go to that one party, you never meet the love of your life. If you never create your linkedin profile, you will never be found by a recruiter. If you do not buy a lottery ticket, you will never win the lottery.

3. Almost everyone sees a couple of lucky breaks in their lives. Most lack the confidence, (or they think) the time, or money to pursue them. You cannot be pessimistic. If you get a lucky break, you have to bet time and money. If you don't, you'll never achieve great wealth.

4. Whether it's real estate, venture capital, or being the best lawyer in town, you need to take actions to build a reputation or brand so that the deals come to you. By the same token, if you want to be unlucky and never get these deals, be dishonest, be lazy, and be a coward.

Disagree slightly: Worst is wrong thing with a big bet of time or money.

Both important but different in my mind. Skin in the game. How much is your decision.
