Isn't that something that's factored into year end bonuses/performance reviews? To give people their props, make the performance review process transparent, so everyone knows who the high performers are

It should be, but I think that the positive feedback is so much more effective if given within one week of the act that merits it. "Last week, Mario did this and" vs. "hey remember that thing you did 6 months ago that I barely remember? Yeah, well here's a bonus for it."

In my experience, it's best if it is done immediately, and, in the best cases, in cash. Christmas bonuses and that kind of thing tend to suck, because they tend to get hit with taxes so much harder than regular payroll.

Word, agree with you about the cash. Unfortunately it's hard to do and not technically legal, I think.
