This is something most non-immigrants dont often get, but an immigrant often leaves her/his country for a reason and they dont always want that reason to follow them.
Another thing is americans as a whole are one of the most liberal people on earth (except religious fundamentalism). Most immigrants arent because their home culture is simply so much less liberal in general (except western europe on social issues).
