What I would say is that for every successful artist who drew from adversity in their work there are many successful artists who do did not. And, further, for every such adversity-inspired artist, there are many who quit instead of becoming inspired.
It's not adversity that determines success, it's how you respond to it. Everyone faces adversity, not everyone has the grit to persevere and that's the key point.
