Some of the reactions to this have been awfully over the top for what amounts to a relatively small percentage of the city's new jobs over the next decade and a half. I feel like people are grappling with scale here.

I think people are looking at what's happened in Seattle and just porting it over to here, forgetting that the NY metro area is 5x the size and Amazon's office here will be half the size

According to the NY Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are 3.996 million private-sector jobs in New York City (let alone the public-sector ones). The idea that an additional .025 million will bring destruction to NYC in any capacity is lunacy.
