I often muse about the great death of retail (ongoing!) caused by an alternative AND superior way to buy (e-commerce), but it wouldn't be happening without the idiotic and overly optimistic debt buyouts of retail chains buy private equity companies.

I'm wondering if there will be a revival though. I agree e-commerce is superior compared to a large supermarket but i (and i think quite a few people) am willing to pay some premium for the "pop and mum store on main street" experience.

Brands will, one way or another, subsidize it. E-commerce has killed much of retail, but it has not killed its speed or discovery functions. The store => becomes advertising.
