I was thinking the other day in pretty much any other city the mayor would not get away with this kind of public transit performance. But there is no political competition here. As long as you can say stuff like "we stand up against trump" you don't need to fix the trains.

Bloomberg was republican (he is anti-trump...or at least pro-Bloomberg (he's running for president in 2020)), so I wouldn't say "no competition." Public transit in NYC is weird. It's unclear to me how much the mayor can actually control. It has a strange history (see R. Moses).
