That's probably true in tech but that might be a special case as you don't need inventory or equipment, and you can typically save some money as an employee beforehand. Maybe this is why Elon Musk did PayPal before Tesla, or Amazon was a website before it did brick and mortar.
PayPal raised $217 million, not inflation adjusted. They gave you $20 if you referred a friend. PayPal and amazon were built and succeeded then because they were the best opportunities at the time. Internet alone easy enough, unlike today (see bird).
