Arguably Chinese GDP is higher than US already, and China seems to be dominating some backward countries already. China has unsinkable aircraft carriers in the South China sea. They are working on hypersonic missiles and stealth penetrating radar.

Yeah that is crazy and a strong counterpoint. I wonder if Taiwan has too many weird financial links to the prc to be a meaningful data point. In any case, China's inability to field a good soccer team may say more about the limits of their aspirations than anything else.
