Of course each group has theoretical and practical people but even if we have 100% "Romans" they'd still pull society into different directions.
A plumber earns income and then must remit tax quarterly (estimated taxes) and must pay payroll taxes himself, whereas someone employed by a co. has the taxes deducted immediately (out of sight & mind) and doesn't pay payroll taxes. The employee then usually gets a refund.

Yeah I know the process. My point is there are other factors, maybe plumbers care about free healthcare even more or tend to be immigrants or something. What's really surprising to me is that in France they don't deduct your taxes, you pay them yourself end of the year.
