I grew up in Greenwich, CT - the hedge fund capital of the world. I went to a private school. Unless you were dumb as a rock, poor for the area, or totally lacking social graces, you wound up in finance and in many cases, making decisions with other peoples' money.

It was just very easy to get a job in the industry via connections. Whereas, if you don't grow up in Greenwich, CT, there's a much higher hurdle to clear. It's like Taleb says, if someone is in a position, and doesn't look typical for it, there's a good chance they're good.
