tell me your inaccurate but satisfactory explanations of things you were too embarrassed to ask about as a kid for instance I firmly believed until i want to say age 12 that "krup" from Gee Officer Krupke was a really bad word

I had a vague belief that Genghis Khan was a wrestler (like WWE) for years. I thought Kublai Khan was a type of snake. That probably had something to do with Kublai sounding like cobra & Khan being close to Kaa from Jungle Book. Not sure exactly when I sorted those out.

Apparently I was at least 1/2 right. They are fragrant little bouquets- traditionally given as gifts (often courtship). Gay medievally, referred to decoration rather than the smell. Ladies would wear them as an adornment (not on their noses though). But wait! There's more!

Nosegays also called tussie mussies (spelling varies wildly) were especially popular in Victorian times when they were full of encoded messages. Flowers had all these secret symbols & meanings. "You have beautiful eyes" "sorry I was a jerk" "let's just be friends" "marry me" etc!

The bit abt the stinky world was probably also right but not the explicit purpose. People did carry sachets& pomanders & wear more perfume & stuff for the same reasons. I think I put those notions together after learning the really morbid true meaning of "ring-around-the-rosey"
