Agreed. I’m so tired of not even knowing what it will cost us until two months later when insurance has chipped away at the bill. $2k for my husband to spend 4 hours with an IV in the emergency room. Gatorade would’ve been cheaper.

I'd be surprised if you hadn't gotten a separate bill from each Dr that poked his/her head in the room, some your husband doesn't even remember. That's par for the course.

A few guesses: Cheaper - I think there is work done, it’s just not commoditizable like a TV is. Transparent/comparable pricing - Nobody makes it transparent. Also, individual components aren’t easily interchanged within a hospital visit.
