The aim of this book is to introduce the big picture of heterogeneous computing. Whether you are a hardware designer or a software developer, you need to know how the pieces of the puzzle fit together.

Applications used by people/businesses/... drive architectural design. Applications -> hardware -> people ask for more features in applications -> hardware ... This vicious cycle is driven by .... marketing folks.

I attended a nice presentation by Malcolm Gladwell, one of my favorite non-fiction writers, about his latest book “Talking to Strangers” ... Dear students, this is not about networking in conferences.

Teach your students • to doubt, • to think, • to communicate, • to question, • to make mistakes, • to learn from their mistakes, and most importantly • have fun in their learning.

Don't just teach your students to read. • Teach them to question what they read, what they study. • Teach them to doubt. • Teach them to think. • Teach them to make mistakes and learn from them. • Teach them how to understand something. • Teach them how to teach others.

Me to a large undergrad class: Why do you think I get a lot of emails, from undergrads, concerning computers crashing or getting sick few hrs before a submission, and I never get those emails from grad students? A student: Because those students never make it to grad school!

Marie Curie died on this day in 1934 as the first woman to win a Nobel and to this day the only scientist to win two Nobels in two different sciences. Unbeknownst to most, she was also a humanitarian hero who saved lives driving her X-ray ambulances:
