For the Presbyterian and Reformed baptism not only symbolizes eschatological life, but it also symbolizes eschatological judgment. Rom 6:3; Col 2:12; 1 Pet 3:21
I was being a little provocative... It seems to me that WCF and BC both interpreter Col 2:11 to be “Christian Circumcision”and not crucifixion as a baptism judgment ordeal. What does this mean for all the modern P&R guys who hold the modern Biblical Theological view?

So you hold that baptism is a judgment ordeal (and I agree), and you see that in distinction from WCF and BC? Or have I misunderstood? And what is the modern Biblical Theological view of the P&R guys?

Do we have to call it a distinction to the point that an elder would have to take exception? Based on the way proof texts were used, and the small number of 17th century commentaries that I have read to-date, the 19th century view is a modified and better view.

I have had my eye out for a few years as I’ve read the older authors, and the Biblical Theological view seems to be mostly absent in books, dogmatics, essays, and sermons as well. Im guessing this is why R. S. Clark calls his explanation the “Modern Argument.”
