Seems like a systematic bias about when crank ideas are worrying and when we shouldn’t take them literally
Strategically it seems like a dangerous game given how close the tea party came to blowing the economy up a few times (debt ceiling), and how they have achieved quite the opposite of some of their stated goals (lower debt)....

The difference is the Tea Party was lying about lower debt being their objective. I highly doubt GND people actually want climate change to *get worse.
