  1. Two books detailing the same conflict between two sides, each from the perspective of one of the sides, each thoroughly convincing the reader that their respective protagonists are the good guys and their enemies the bad guys, despite no contradiction between the two accounts.

And hence the number of standard Young tableaux of shape λ would be |λ|! divided by the product of hook lengths. These events are not independent. This formula holds anyway.

If these events were independent, then the probability of a random labeling of the Young diagram being a standard Young tableau would be the product of reciprocals of all the hook lengths.

For every grid cell, the probability that its label is less than everything to its right or below it is the reciprocal of its hook length (the number of grid cells to its right, plus the number of grid cells below it, plus one for itself).

The number of standard Young tableaux of shape λ is the number of labelings of grid cells in the Young diagram of λ with distinct integers 1,...,|λ|, times the probability that a random such labeling is a standard Young tableau. The number of such labelings is |λ|!.

Ontological capture: the attempt to change the way concept-space is organized by repeatedly using concepts in accepted but noncentral ways until these uses become seen as more central, and the rest of the concept is reorganized around them.

Everything in the market is a monopoly. For any good or service on offer, no competitor can provide exactly the same good or service. At best, they can provide a close substitute. Sometimes such substitutes are close enough that the difference is not commonly seen as important.

Society functions largely by people being pressured by their peers into behavior that is considered good. Yet "peer pressure" has negative connotations. This is because superiors also exert similar pressures, and compete with peers for power.

Dignity is an overrated virtue. Curiosity is an underrated virtue. People often should, and seldom do, take opportunities to trade away their dignity for curiosity.
