    Most in Montgomery County aren’t more than a 15 or 20-minute drive from a town. This farm overlooks a portion of Northern Virginia in the distance. Without land preservation policies and agricultural easements, our county would look very different today.

    Aquaponics is a type of hydroculture, i.e., growing without soil. This field is being studied more as interest in its sustainability grows. There is currently one farm in , Global Aquaponic Systems in Silver Spring, and more may be on the way!

    In 1850, farms produced 4,334 lbs of beeswax and honey. Since then, & related products have become popular retail products for farmers. In the 2012 Ag Census, there were 24 MoCo keeping 260 colonies, collecting 6,644 lbs of honey worth about $33,000.
