not sure why the conversation isn‘t that workers should have the option of whatever mix of remote <-> onsite work best for them

Oh I agree, and like you note it depends on the job (teaching via zoom, for example, is *not* the same as teaching f2f, but we already had remote options pre-pandemic). I just can’t with the moral superiority of “not staying remote is violence”
