Wouldn't that depend on the patient's immune status? The groups I know of that bring emotional support animals to appropriate patients are not paid by hospitals, nor do they bring the hospital any income.
When my husband had his cancer treatment last year, no animals were allowed anywhere near the patients. Now, if you wanted to have actual, appropriately trained, human therapists, I’d be all for it.
A 97y woman client once told me she adopted a stray dog that later started biting-scratching her leg. When she went to her clinic to get leg cared for was told her that she had basal cell carcinoma where her dog was nipping her. She attributed her dog of possibly saving her life.
