Don’t look away. Don’t look down. Don’t pretend to not see hurt. Look people in the eye. Even when their pain is overwhelming and hard to understand. People need to know they are not alone. They are in pain and their families are in pain.

I have been thinking a lot lately about what we are messaging our youth. I had the picture on the left, youth now has the picture on the right.I worry about the kids still finding their tribe, which one looks more welcoming?

Another freebie: Have you seen an uptick in crime for theft, break-ins, or violence in SF this week? Iso is what the majority of fentanyl users are seeking this week but it is 6 times more expensive. Do the math and connect the dots

Your SCS will not light that pathway but will show them that this is it. I invite anyone to an afternoon with me. I only ask that you treat everyone with respect and come from a place of information seeking.

They all desperately want a way out. I don’t have to tell you, they will. Light and clear the pathway to the way out and the results will show you. No one has ever told me that they are content, boosting and shooting fentanyl on the street. If you never ask, you will never know.

My one ask of the BOS and mayor: forget left wing/right wing blah blah blah, ask the people out on the street. I do every day I am with them. I once thought differently, like you, then I started asking them, and their responses lead me to where I am in my position with this debate.

I had a moment last night when one of my people called me from a BART pay phone. “I’m just a piece of sh** drug addict, why don’t you see that like everyone else does?” I will never see him as that. He is worthy of help, hope, and recovery.

Don’t worry if you are low on cash for your fentanyl, there are plenty that will pay you cash for items bought with your ebt card at a 1/4 of the price. One stop shop down here!!

Spent the morning enjoying the break in the rain and a trip to the farmer’s market. The city has officially given up and are now inviting everyone to join in on the illegal sale of stolen goods and drugs as part of the farmer’s market. See pics below!

He is 1 year sober next month.I’m grateful for this conversation, many of his friends have died since he left. He reflected on the many years wasted in SF. “It keeps people there and traps them because they can't use or do any of that craziness anywhere else, so you never leave”.

I got to reconnect with a buddy of mine that disappeared from the TL back in February.Lots of rumors of what happened to him but he reached out to me last night, sober. “I made it out of that death trap!” He was using $200 of crack and 5g of fentanyl every day.

Can we start with the prior promise of treatment on demand? We can’t begin to get people well that want to join your efforts without avail. treatment options. We can’t call the newspaper/media every time we are desperate to help someone.

Newsflash: this newish ISO fentanyl is no joke! 4 of my people this week are or have been in the hospital and they have been out there using for years. They all talk about, with sadness, the young tunnel and bridge teenagers coming into SF to use. Educate your kids, the ods cont..

Another freebie for the powers that be: Listen up San Francisco, to see results we have never had, we need to do things we have never done. 🧐

One more freebie: when harm reduction supplies are given, give them a paper that tells them where the wellness hubs are located if they choose treatment and tell them for the first time ever, treatment is available 24/7!!Let’s launch a comprehensive plan that we can be proud of.

Both open 24/7. Both meet them where they are, both are named for their actual intent. Data needs to be collected at both, reported monthly, to identify gaps. Unless treatment options are an obtainable part of the plan, it is just another rinse and repeat.

No additional safety hubs unless a mirrored wellness hub. Let’s call it was it is, a safe place to use and a separate safe place to get well. Once again, no one goes to McDonald’s to lose weight. If you have $$$ for multiple safety hubs then you have $$$ for wellness hubs.

Another freebie: Let’s meet in the middle. How about calling the “wellness” hubs, “safety” hubs, a safe place to use.For every safety hub, we must have a separate wellness hub,a safe place to get treatment, MAT, case management, etc.Equal resources for both at separate locations.

You can find happiness after really hard things. That’s you and also includes everyone you pass on the street. Just an unsolicited mantra to take you through the weekend. Give it a try, it’s just for a weekend. 🙂

I recently found a missing person, psychotic, homeless, and paranoid. No help,he is an adult, right to choose. Be clear,no one is living their best life running around paranoid, naked, getting assaulted, and thinking that the FBI is watching them. Hoping for change and compassion.❤️

Today I voted against a resolution urging the Mayor and DPH to keep the Tenderloin Center open beyond its planned closure next month. Reducing and reversing overdoses is unquestionably a top priority for San Francisco, and we’ve learned some important lessons from the Center.🧵

In NYC this past week after moving away for many years has been a good education.I love to talk to the local homeless community about what NYC has been up to. My big takeaway, stop looking to NYC for guidance on the fentanyl epidemic in SF. The drugs here are different, period.

If people are turned away, how many, does the data tell us we need more than the TC? If drug tx placement was attempted but was not successful what was that due to, capacity, staffing, etc? How many people are turned away a day at BAART? Why? You see where I am going with this?

The data given shows referred? Does that mean placed or that they were given a sheet of paper with drug treatment facilities to call but when they called they weren’t able to get placed? Does that count? How many people are turned away from TC for safe use due to capacity?

Another freebie to the powers that be: Come from a place of information seeking. In times of divide, look to the data. Real data, not subjective data. If the TLC is helping +400 ppl/day-that’s subjective. How many people have been actually placed in a drug treatment facility?

Newsflash: Another freebie for the powers that be. They all don’t want to be slaves to their addiction, no one would. During the “meeting them where they are” approach, ask them about drug treatment, you will be surprised by the answers. Soo many barriers!
