A friend asked me if I fear my tweets will harm me professionally... I can answer that I was deeply affected in academic spaces when I kept my mouth shut. Yes, some people strongly dislike me now but it feels better than being the recipient of their harm. It has been liberating.

Thank you for saying this. I haven't always had the courage to speak up and that affected my mental health severely. This inspires me.

Feeling beaten down by chronic illness & toxic academe was a bad combo. I had to free myself from one. I feel you and hope you find a space where you can thrive. It is not all bad out there. I'm connected to wonderful people now because of it! Take care of yourself!

Agree. Speaking up might be dangerous, but then not speaking up is also damaging - I would much rather leave any potential harm to come from external sources than to self harm via not speaking up. While the former has a high percentage of harm, I feel like the latter is 100%.

It’s definitely a risk especially in such a toxic environment. I’m not doing anything novel here. Just surviving
