I hope and pray your family and friends are alright. I am from Chico and just visited this summer the area. This hurts even if I haven't lived in Butte county in 2 decades. Family still lives there also, this will take a strong community for recovery.

I live in Shasta county as of December of last year. Being here and watching as my hometown burned to the ground and all of the people I grew up with and family evacuating...I feel so helpless. My high school, gone. The hospital I had both of my babies...gone. All gone
-
It sucks bad. People dead, pets dead. A whole town wiped off the face of the earth. I am in shock at how fast that fire moved and destroyed. Any word on how it started? I still have family in Durham, Chico and Redding plus some other nearby areas.
-
I've been hearing it was a controlled burn that got out of hand. Hoping that the cause is confirmed soon.
-
Oh wow, that brings a whole lot more issues into it
-
And of course the winds did not help...causing it to sweep through town as quickly as it did
-
Is it that dry there right now. I used to live in the trailer park on Clark road next to Butte College. I know exactly how much burnable area there is and the winds that would RIP thru there.
-
No rain for a while so yep. There were warnings about this. I was here in Shasta when the Carr Fire was happening and even then people from Butte were saying that they were worried if a fire were to start. And it did...

Did you take this photo?

I screenshot it from the video my daughters father sent me as he was evacuating. I moved to a different town last December with our daughter. Her dad and grandma have now lost everything and she's lost her other home and everything there.

I'm so sorry. It was my dad's hometown, too. It's where his parents are buried. I have always loved that "Welcome to Paradise" sign.
Hope you and your family are safe. -
We are. I moved to Shasta recently so fortunately I was not in town as the place we moved from is ash. But my ex mother in law and daughter's father were and luckily made it out OK.
-
Glad they made it out. I still don't know about my family's property there, but I fear the worst. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the idea of a fire destroying a whole town. Awful!

Hello. The Record Searchlight (Redding) would like to use your photo posted on Twitter. Would you give us permission? It would go on all our platforms and USA Today. If so, may we please have your name and town of residence? - Jessica 530-225-8265 PS: Please stay safe!

That's fine. My name is Ariel Cain. I currently live in Anderson but grew up in Paradise. My daughter's father Jedd Vandevier sent me a video of him evacuating and this is the screenshot I took. I'm heartbroken
