*whispers* I choose an image to put as the cover for my writing binder on every project. Something that reminds me of the vibe I’m aiming for every time I go to write. Your poster was/is 🔥🔥🔥. 🙌🏾✊🏾

*whispers* Underground & Lovecraft Country was a double whammy. I used to be just a warm, heartfelt, normal girl and then…🧟‍♀️🧛🏽🤣 (Also Pitch. It was so good and I don’t even like baseball!!!)

*whispers* I’m not exactly sure what the heart of development is (my mind blows right past warm fuzzy feelings to bloody organs still beating after being ripped from your chest) but I’ll be exploring it next Wednesday with . 🤣🫀✍🏾 Join me:

Casting is one of the most important jobs of the director. I write the spell, but the actors have to use their bodies to conjure it. And casting's not difficult. There's droves of talented actors, you just have to be patient enough to wait for the one that makes the right magic.

I'm told I write fast, to which I say, "I typed fast, I've been writing this for a decade in my head." It takes discipline to get it out of your head, but I think we all live the life of a writer. We live our lives by the stories we tell about ourselves & others. Memory is story.

We watch movies together that are similar to the vibe we want. We trade images and color schemes back and forth. We talk about the characters and how we can visualize their stories even more then what's on the page.

Nope. I've been a fan of Tomb Raider since I first played the games back when Playstations were grey. And writing is the house of my best accomplishments. I'm saving all my nerves for directing it! 😊

Good is subjective. You do the work and you write something the best you can. Then you write something else better. Then you write something else better. Getting lost in the idea is part of the fun.

I describe the over all mood of the montage and describe a couple of key moments. That way we'll make sure to get what's needed to advance the story, but it also leaves space for the direct to expand on the mood with their ideas.

I don't have a "ready" moment. I let them swim around in my brain. I write down notes. I watch movies that feel like maybe what I'm trying to do. I read books and research. Then I start working on the outline.

We loosely map out the entire season before we write any scripts so we know what we're building to. And I always have a vague idea where/the feeling I want to end the series on...but so far that doesn't seem to matter much in my career. 😂😂😂

Screenwriting ability is subjective. You just need one person to like your script, and if that one person happens to be the head of a studio that can finance it, you're golden. That's what makes being a screenwriter excitingly unpredictable and infuriating at the same time.

Not sure I fully understand the question. What propels a story? Characters with a goal who take action. What usually propels MY stories? So far the trend has been characters who need to survive and take action by rebelling against oppressive systems.

No. But if it's in your heart to do so, then do it. If your aim is to adapt your novel into a screenplay, you should make that a part of selling the rights. If the studio wants the project bad enough, they'll make it happen.

There's too many to name. Not so much specific filmmakers, but films: The Goonies, Jurassic Park, Alien, the original Night of the Living Dead, the french version of Martyrs, Scream, Titantic, Love and Basketball, Pride and Prejudice (2005), Indecent Proposal, Battle Royale...
