Calatrava is indeed excellent; prior to my journey in games I was once on a path to being an architect predominantly inspired by Foster and Gehry too.
He is also a shady guy who scammed millions in spanish public projects that ended up more than triplicating budgets, shaking hands with corrupt governments while evading every possible tax.
Tbh a lot of famous architects were pretty scummy people. Frank Lloyd Wright was awful.
There is one thing that I still remember very vividly from my Architecture degree days, and that is how everyone at school consistently agreed on how bad an example his designs were :/ I do agree on the sculpture-like characteristics of his work
Why did they think that? Personally I find his work much more exiting than some other architects who use organic shapes (e.g. Gehry) because Calatravas shapes express underlying structural forces - like the work of Gaudi, Saarinen, Nervi, etc.
