this is what I think of when I see those "ChatGPT is powered by $15/hr workers" articles
like that's also bad and dishonest, but that's the AI-human-labor 1%

strikes are meant to disrupt! it’s supposed to be inconvenient! if you think twitter is annoying, imagine watching a network make millions off your writing while you still can’t afford to go the doctor
Working from is a great option and one I do roughly 9 out of 10 days, but that's different from ACTUALLY LIVING IN YOUR OFFICE
it's a nuanced difference, but having experienced both, I PROMISE it's real
I did an "internship" where our only compensation was our Atlanta townhouse rent being paid and we all worked from there
it was the worst summer of my life, we all started signing up for any study the psych school would take us for just to get out of the house
Employees are insisting on working from home. But what about offices?
The solution is simple: bring the office to the home.
Companies are now buying homes and setting them up as offices.
Employees can now "work from home" all the while being at the office.

Starting to realize there are many dream pubs that my stories will never mesh with while there are others that just get me. I think I’m a happier writer when I stop trying to write stories that “fit” a mag and focus on finding the mags that love the stories I want to write
I used to have low self-esteem. Then at some point, whenever my brain said anything negative about me, I'd respond to it with "lol, lmao." My brain completely disregards all negative thoughts now & immediately dumps them into the trash. Feel free to use this in your own life.
Not me thinking about about a Noceda Adoption au where Camilla and Manny adopted Vee and Hunter at a young age and how Luz and Vee and Hunter would have grown up together and all the sibling shenanigans they could get up to~

1) There have been a couple threads today about the importance of having writers on set, and a lot of them have focused on last minute changes to to physical locations, story continuity, etc, but there are two other reasons I want to hit a) dialogue and b) training
“The question, as always, is an attempt to find a loophole. Whenever we ask “Who is my neighbor?” what we really mean is “Who is *not* my neighbor?” or, less tactfully, “Can’t you please just tell us that there’s *somebody* we’re allowed not to love?””
Sometimes the admin side of being a creative feels like "here is a list of ways in which I would prefer you not to screw me and my fellows over. Oh, you found a new one."
etc *will* use AI to save money at the expense of human creators if we don't all push back together and hard. They will PR-waffle about interrogating the modern whatever, but they will absolutely do it.
For the avoidance of doubt, we still strongly urge @BradfordLitFest to replace the AI illustrations in their publicity with credited artwork from a human creator. We are pleased to be talking to the organisers, but as many of you have pointed out the images are still there. twitter.com/Soc_of_Authors…
A precedent is being set right now that says that all creatives deserve a viable longterm career. Companies have been exploiting the idea of the "dream job" to their own benefit, and we don't have to accept that. The WGA's success is everyone's success!
Because I've seen this sentiment a few times today: the WGA's list of demands doesn't mean that screenwriters think they deserve better than creatives in less protected industries. EVERYONE deserves those protections and they ARE possible across industries
AI is not artificial intelligence. It's an aggregator that uses statistical analysis and pattern recognition to identify elements of a photo, of writing, or whatever task it's being used for.
Think of how many people here on social media can't grasp that.
Neither can CEOs.
I’m in total support of these writers, but it’s always stunning to note they’re afraid of the conditions that comic creators live under. twitter.com/adamconover/st…
Authors, I know it's flattering when production companies approach you, but they're playing on your desire to see your work on the screen and plan to use you as scab labor. Say no to all "opportunities" until our fellows in the WGA fulfill their goals!
PSA: The WGA strike may mean that novelists & authors get approached for screenwriting. While this may seem like a perfect opportunity, please note that the WGA does strongly enforces its right to prevent non-members who have engaged in scabbing from ever becoming members.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
Don't do this - human rights defenders already have images and videos undermined - don't contribute to it by utilizing AI-generated imagery in this way. Yes, there will be ways to use AI-generated imagery for advocacy - this is not it. https://twitter.com/Amnesty_Norge/status/1651879572944691201…
It's the last days for Hugo #awardseligibility, and I'd love if you nominated "Girl Oil" for Best Short Story.
The title's a dual-language pun. "NuYou," the beauty cream, is a rough romanization of "Girl"+"Oil," mimicking the translation of Chinese diaspora life.

last remark for the hugos: for the first time i have a completed series in the world! the last book, THE VOID ASCENDANT, came out in 2022. i am too burnt-out to yell much about it but. completed! trilogy! of! books! :D
“I hope they both lose!” No. I cannot believe I’m about to say this but I need this to be the most brutal and one sided affair imaginable. I need the mouse to chew, swallow, and spit up bones.
I got my info from your tailor and from the photos you posted. I called him to ask him about his process. Even he said that his base price is not the full bespoke standard, although he can do that if asked.
